Expert mode is pretty much an all around more difficult experience. Bosses have new AI, every monster and damaging entity is much stronger, you dont regen as quickly, and such. However you do get better loot. Though if you get bad world gen you're fucked.
Even more so in expert. >_< Earlier got a jungle right next to spawn, Granite below me, and marble to my left underground. There was not any good loot either. Not even in the floating islands. I was furious so I'm restarting.
