"attractive" is a word that has more emphasis, in a way, so if you want to take it to a higher level than "cute" or "hot", you should. "cute" and "hot" are slang words as well, so i feel like "attractive" just puts adds more feeling
I feel like it depends on the person who's saying it, and the person who's receiving it. I'd rather be called cute/hot because attractive seems awkward to me. That's just my personal view on it though. I know some people who hate being called cute and would rather be called handsome, attractive, etc. I think saying someone is cute has a different meaning that attractive as well. For me, cute isn't always about the physical attributes - it's more personality based. Attractive sounds more physical.
