being socially active in an environment with people you know personally is exponentially easier than talking to people you've never met and kind of want the approval of, like you don't want them to joke about your voice, while in real life they won't. It's simple analogy!
shouldn't be afraid, people like confidence. If you talk to people you don't know at school there's a much higher chance of them liking you than them not liking you
