Basically, Trump is fed up with Bashar al-Assad and him killing Syrian citizens with gas attacks, so he sent troops into Syria and is putting forth a minimal amount of airstrikes. It's a good thing...scary...but good. I doubt it will escalate to a 'WWIII' per se.
UPDATE: My apologies, I have no news of troops being sent into Syria, but 50+ Tomahawk Missiles were fired at a Syrian runway, the source of the gas attacks.
