Fucking agreed. Nobody remembers the difference between a eukaryotic cell and prokaryotic cell by the time you’re 26. Schools should focus more on preparing students for life, not preparing them for exams.
And kills A LOT more people... Most science, on the other hand, builds upon the seemingly "useless" science to make a greater result. Hence the constant comparisons made to "standing upon the shoulders of giants".
religion is good at providing a sense of community because it pits you against other people and gives you something in common with a bunch of people, and sometimes has useful morals that people choose to follow
That same power has saved countless people; the invasion of Japan alone would have likely resulted in an additional 100,000 American deaths, and many hundreds of thousands of Japanese dead, if not MILLIONS. Then there is the power of Atom, when harnessed in reactors to ensure that her Glow powers and livens our lives. Meanwhile, things like christianity, judaism, islam, etc have done nothing but kill, destroy, subjugate, and promote willful ignorance. I don't know if you actually believe the **** you are currently spewing, but I must say I am EXTREMELY disappointed in you right now Mechanic. I expected better of you...
i think science is a bad thing generally, thats all. it has a good chance of killing us all (although it hasnt already). but u make good point Cruiser_Katori . also religion isnt all bad, come on. but science has undoubtedly destroyed and killed vastly more of the biosphere than religion, which i think makes it worse.
Religion isn't all bad?! What part of "kill, destroy, subjugate, and promote willful ignorance" did you not *get*? Science has likely SAVED most of the human species several bloody times over, including from our own mistakes. And RELIGION is usually what DRIVES science denial, which is what damages the biosphere, NOT the developments themselves. What the heck are you doing, getting drunk out of your mind, or just trolling?
I disagree, science is the foundation to life and how we as a civilization advance. Do I think everyone needs to be a scientist? Of course not, but it's important for it to be taught in schools and for the average person to be somewhat scientifically literate.
That completely depends on what you decide to do with your life after school. For me at least, you are required to take science only until grade 10, and after that it's completely your choice if you continue to or not. And on top of that, it gets split into physics, chemistry and biology, so you can decide what area of science you want to learn. If you don't plan on a career that you need science for, simply stop taking science courses lol.
i think civilization was a stupid idea. sure, we should be scientifically literate if we value knowledge, but it's still mostly useless. Deletedxyz if you choose to not use it and to never apply it in everyday situations, it will not appear. but all of it will appear if you choose to not forget it.
