-Most often than not it is related with conservative atmospheres, but I've met a few people who dislike homosexuality and have nothing to do with conservative families or the like.
-No, I'm friendly to gay people, my father is too, etc.
-Nopes
I'm conservative economically and a centrist for everything else. So if anything I'm more conservative than liberal, but someone like your friend would think that I'm not since it's an "all or nothing" kind of thing to him.
1. I think homophobia is what non-conservatives invented to ‘diagnose’ conservatives that do not agree with or “like” homosexuality
2. I have several gay friends and aquaintences and I’m basically Ronald Reagan.
3. No, treating a human like a human is not against Conservative values. Last time I checked the Republicans were responsible for passing every major civil rights legislation to roll through Congress.
This topic is kind of interesting. On a grand scale, I am quite neutral in the question. On a smaller level however, I can be a bit contradictory. Whilst I personally would like to view myself as an open and accepting person, I am not going to deny that I instinctively feel a little bit uncomfortable around people from the LGBT-community, even though that's not something I make into a political debate or statement. However, on the contrary, I think what really matters is that I treat them with respect regardless of what I personally feel.
For the reasons stated above, I can quite confidently say homophobia is something that's naturally a part of human evolution and social conformity. However, it has become more closely associated with conservative politics than it is with liberal and socialist ones.
What matters the most is, as I stated above, what choices you make and how much respect you decide to treat someone with, regardless if you like them or not, and regardless if they deserve it or not. And when I say "respect", it's not always about being nice and kind to someone, but simply not to discriminate anyone.
