After a lot of researching and listening to elders talk about philosophy about love and relationships I have concluded there is basically 2 schools of thought when it comes to relationships.
School 1 is people are predetermined to being certain people and you need to get a lot of experience to figure out what your priorities are and who fits a small list of priorities you have. That way you can find someone to commit who compliments you perfectly so the relationship will naturally run smoothly with little effort as possible.
The second is that people are not predetermined and relationships require work, communication and an investment into the other person's growth.What you need to look for is people willing to put the work in and things that show they will. So you can marry a stranger and still have a good marriage so long as you both are respectful of one another and hard workers.
I think in the USA we used to be mostly the later but have changed more and more to school 1, but there is actually a lot of diversity of opinions that isn't talked about openly a lot so people can spend quite a lot of time with someone who has a completely different perspective on relationships than them. I think a lot of grief comes between people who believe in one entering and leaving a relationship with someone who thinks the other because the way they communicate with one another especially in the break up is being received to mean far more hurtful things than what the person means. If you are a person who is from school 2 and someone from school 1 says something like the above you will feel like you can never grow into a better person and that can make you feel hopeless about yourself. If you are someone from school 1 who finds yourself realizing your partner doesn't believe in soulmates it can cause significant hurt and paranoia that your partner doesn't actually have any feelings for you. And it doesn't help our media basically pushes both because they have figured out that if they do they can get more eyeballs.
I'm between these options. Even 'soulmates' need to work. And sometimes people aren't a fit--they COULD do a fuckload of work, but...jaysus. A better fit would be...better!

Mechagon/Nazjatar rep is definitely that. Late enough in the game that you have to grind it instead of just casually doing it on your own accord, and vital because of flying. BLEGH

I've always thought that demanding and expecting a thank-you card for a gift makes the gifting more about the gifter feeling good about themselves and less about actually giving something.
Expecting anything in return for a gift has always felt... off, to me.
