Because I play in 1.8 and the Minestrike community is well known for using x-ray texture packs/mods that allow you to see player locations through walls.
Additionally as a Clans Mod I can't actually use that on the server, I couldn't replicate it, I had to get a non-staff friend to do it. I can do it in single player, but the same applies there, I don't play single player, let alone in spectator mode or 1.9+
