I just wanna put some of my thoughts into the mix in regards to the update. I’ve been religiously reading over all the feedback we’ve received on the forums and Discord servers, and I think it’s really important that we have these outlets for y’all to contribute.

Transparency with the Community

This has been a heavily discussed topic on the update thread, and I think it’s a super important thing to discuss. In an idealistic setting, we’d all be able to sit down and have a discussion on these changes before they happened. I agree that we could have (and should have) done better with collecting community feedback here.

With that said, I hope that we can still move forward from this, and continue to improve in the area of communications and transparency. We’ve taken huge steps in that direction, especially within Community Management.

Why were these changes made?

I think sjspamson put it best in his post on Nuclear_Poptart’s wall, so I’ll just quote it here for y’all. In short, these changes were made because our production team couldn’t realistically keep every game in the lobby up to the standards we wanted, so they had to make the decision to choose certain games to focus on.

“We currently have 3 (count em) 3 PC devs. Alex and Sam being the only frontend devs who ever touch games. There are only so many hours in a month and we feel it would be unfair and unrealistic to keep as many games as Mineplex has featured in the main hub as if they are good examples of the quality standards we want to have going forward. It just can't happen. As a lot of you know, the EULA changes that came a few years back have hurt every server considerably in terms of revenue. This is why we have pushed cosmetic and other items into the shop in order to continue supporting the server by having people producing updates, games, and maps. We would love to have the resources in order to maintain and create new games, but at this time it just isn't possible.”

We are listening to the community.

I know that this might just sound like a generic, general statement, but we are truly listening to the community’s feedback. Our Community Managers and members of the Feedback Team are working hard to collect and address your thoughts on the matter. There have already been some changes to reflect your opinions, and hopefully more to come. I’ve personally spent a huge chunk of time discussing the update with people on the Community Feedback Project Discord server.

This update wasn’t done in spite of our community members, but instead was done to benefit everyone in the long run. We know it kinda sucks to have your favorite games seemingly pushed aside. I loved played Dragon Escape, and I was starting to play it some more recently. I am kinda disappointed that it was displaced, but I understand why it had to be done.

Continue to give us your feedback. We are listening, and we are actively looking for solutions.

What’s been discussed already?

I mentioned above that possible happy mediums have been discussed already. Most notably, we’ve implemented the Classic Games NPC in the lobby. This wasn’t here before the update was fully pushed, but we added it after collecting some feedback from you all. Currently, it only has a couple Castle Siege servers, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

I’d like to see this NPC expanded into a couple servers dedicated to the displaced games. The games in here wouldn’t receive regular updates or new maps, but it’d be a happy middle ground for those dedicated players who are displeased with these changes.

Some other ways to feature these games are still up for discussion behind-the-scenes, and this is still a changing situation. Please don’t feel that what’s been done is final, as there are still things that can change. If you have any more ideas in terms of a middle-ground, we’re all ears.

Going Forward

I think it’s amazing that so many of our dedicated community members have been able to discuss this topic so freely, and I hope that this continues into the future. However, there are some less-than-favorable ways to communicate your frustration. Breaking the rules on the update thread won’t get us anywhere, nor will rioting and insulting staff members in lobbies. We understand that you’re frustrated, and we’re looking for all the feedback you’ve got. There’s still a way to properly do this, and that doesn’t involve breaking the rules or insulting others.

If you’ve got feedback, here’s how you can share it with us:
You can post it on the forums. Your threads and posts are being seen and collected.

Forward it to a Community Manager, specifically Nuclear_Poptart. PMs aren’t preferable and might have slow replies, but you’re free to post on Nuclear’s wall with any of your feedback.

Bring your ideas into one of the official Discord servers. Here’s the invite link to the Community Feedback Project, if you’d like to give us your feedback there: https://discord.gg/xV2VRpt (Of course, please read over the rules if you join.)

My Opinions

I do think these changes will benefit the network in the long run. These changes will allow us to focus on pushing out bigger and better updates to a larger audience. I know that it does kinda suck to have your favorite game displaces, but that’s a tough decision that had to be made.

I know this could have been handled better, and I think this was a bit of a shortcoming in terms of communications and transparency. However, I do really believe that we’re moving in a good direction as of now, and I hope we continue down that path.

I’d like to see a better way to handle these displaced games (and the community of players that are dedicated to them). There are a lot of ideas being discussed, and I hope that some of these ideas are implemented.

I think the amount of insults being thrown around is terrible. I read over the update thread this morning, and there were quite a few replies which were simply insulting other people without giving actual feedback. We understand that you’re frustrated, but that doesn’t mean you can break the rules.
