What would you do if you were Mineplex' owner?
I'd spread the release of new games throughout the whole year. Currently, Mineplex doesn't release too many new games - that might be (or most likely is) because Christmas is close and they usually release new stuff in holidays. I'd split that up because you don't want to lose customers during the other seasons, like Wynncraft lost me for example when they didn't release Gavel in ages, or Kerbal Space Program got me turned away because there were no (playable, there always was this Devnote Tuesday or whatever) updates in far too long (and I'm more than certain that Mineplex lost several players who were waiting for Clans). Bring out stuff regularly, short teasers, just tiny things that keep the community alive.
As for minor improvements, I think I'd start out with a /report command. If you /report for a chat offense for example, the chat log would be saved down, for game offenses, video evidence would still be necessary. If several people /report the same player, the player would get some kind of a warning, saying that the case would be investigated and further action would be taken if the player was found guilty but nothing would happen if he was not proven guilty (this is just to scare them away from hacking). The player would additionally get some kind of a code (as I explained
here) that would be connected to data like chatlogs, MAC warnings, players in-game and informations like these. This would make it much easier for staff members to review reports, especially if a player appealed, because you can compare the actual data to the data in the report video. Faking chatlogs would be completely impossible, and faking videos would be extremely hard, and with a smaller investigation expense it could be easily detected. And for the people who are going to think that 'the code can be cracked' or that 'it's impossible', I made an uncrackable example implementation. Not sure where your claims are coming from.
Player honors. Allow players to honor their teammates (for sportsmanlike behaviour etc.) either using a command or a (clickable JSON) chat message after every game. Every honor would add to your statistics and, if you get honored a lot, give out rewards.
League of Legends for example is a game whose community grew much better thanks to this (though it's still bad to be honest).
Next, I'd update UHC. Possibly make regular tooltips in all waiting lobbies with stuff like "Did you know that winning a game of UHC gets you a prize of 10,000 gems and one ancient chest?", and, parallel to that, give out ancient chests to the winner. Ancient chests don't have too valuable loot anyway and winning UHC is hard, so that would make it fair - also, if a player won, it would increase the player's dopamine rate in the blood, resulting in him trying to get more chests and therefore ending up buying a rank from the store. UHC is a great game in my opinion and could be used to keep players on Mineplex because every UHC game is different, but at the moment, most players play on servers like Badlion.
More MPS customization options. How about some kind of a PvP game mode specifically for MPS? Just some armor, a bow, a sword, possibly some kits (just with different armor and possibly one ability, but nothing too huge) and a kill counter, I really enjoy messing me with friends in a plain kill-for-kill environment.
A ranked Dominate/SG ladder. Just make a
simple elo-based game type (
for team ratings, calculate the average elo for each team, then modify that one, and lastly modify the player's elo to match the changes on the average elo) where you can't get in with a party (and not using /server, only using a queue like the Nether portals in the lobby) and where leaving makes you lose ELO. Elo would be hidden, but there would be several leagues to play in, as it is in multiplayer games like Starcraft, League of Legends, Dota or HotS.
Bridges tournaments. Please. I'm still waiting for the 2015 Winter Bridges Tournament.
Lower gem rewards for the daily bonus, but higher rewards for a higher streak.
Forums, staff, and the community.I disagree with the opinion of many saying that a healthy forum keeps the server alive. That's not true IMO. We're a small part of the players, we don't need special treatment, but there are still some things I'd like to get out.
Unlike lots of others, I'd keep the wall rules. If your wall is on Enjin anyway, why do you care from being banned from
mineplex.com anyway? Why don't you just
enjin.com then? The website you're on makes the rules you have to follow. If you don't follow them the website should be in their complete right to punish you for it, as long as the punishment still stays on their website. So, if Mineplex bans you from their forums for a wall post against a community member, I'm fine with that, but if they were to request a ban on Enjin, I wouldn't agree (
if you do something that's against the law or Enjin's TOS, like Sleep for example did, it's a completely different topic).
If I had been nominated a few days earlier, I would have suggested a community admin (as I already did to Chiss recently), but now that ShinyRukii has been promoted I'm happy. Let's see how that works out. Together with that, I'd wish a more structured reviewal of community suggestions. Dug in all the trash, there are some amazing and well-done ideas, someone would just have to split those two groups up.
Else than that, bring out Clans together with the lobby parkours and a HL3 joke. It would be kind of a surprise, and surely calm down the angry players that would hate because Clans took so long.
What I mentioned are mostly minor things, but that's the direction I'd go with Mineplex. Every single design element shows the love and appreciation you put into a piece of software, may it be a utility tool, game or game server. This love for the details is what brought me here originally, and I'd appreciate to see more of it.
