There are 3 areas to explore!
1st area: Santa's land, you will need to hunt around Santa's land for the items the Grinch wants so you can buy your own Grinch items, he will tell you you the specific item he wants.
2nd area: Grinch caves, you will need to hunt in the Grinch caves for the presents laying on the floor, NOT the presents the Grinch's drop so you can buy special xmas items.
3rd area: Frost land, you will need to kill the 4 winter bosses for their tokens to upgrade the xmas and grinch items, there are many dangers in this land so be prepared!
A tense is not a part of speech. It is the time period in which the verb takes place, indicated by the declension. "Was" is a past tense declension of "to be".
You are confusing grammatical categories with parts of speech. A tense is not a type of word, it's a modifier applied to a verb. The verb changes depending on the tense but it is still a verb.
A verb in its "raw" form is an infinitive, in this case "to be". But in order to make that verb mean anything you usually have to decline it, which means giving it a person, a tense, a mood and a voice. They don't stop being verbs just because they acquire these characteristics, any more than "Owen" stops being a noun just because it's also a name.
"Was", in this context, is a third-person active past indicative verb.
