The moon could be smaller or bigger, and it could be closer or further away; it would still be possible to have eclipses like this. The only parameter that would be affected would be the area on Earth of which the shadow would cover.

The shadow of the moon, the umbra, will cover a certain area of the Earth. You need to be within this area to actually view it as an eclipse.

If the moon was closer and/or bigger, the umbra would cover a larger area of the Earth, but still have the same effects. If the moon was further away and/or smaller, the umbra would be smaller.

Yes it would, even if it can be hard to imagine. It's just that it would be within a smaller or larger area on Earth that people would be able to see it.

If you hold up a ball to block the sun (do not try it), it's the exact same principle as with the moon, just that it would be within a much, much smaller area.

I don't understand. If the moon was, say, 20% bigger, we wouldn't have the corona effect we get with eclipses. The moon would be too big for any light to get around. If it was 20% smaller, it'd be like an annular solar eclipse, only smaller.

Yeah, I get that if the moon was smaller, bigger, closer, further, it'd still pass between the Earth and the sun technically causing an eclipse, but with the way it is, with total solar eclipses, the sun and the moon are almost the exact same size in the sky. As long as they scale with each other, we wouldn't notice any visual difference at all (such as if it was twice as big and twice as far way).

If the moon was too small and/or far away, light from the opposite side of the sun would be seen, as in the second figure.

If the moon was bigger and/or closer, it would still work as long as the shadow wouldn't cover all of Earth, even though there would be a variation. As said, there would be an eclipse, but I never said it would be identical to how they are now.
