I truly do believe that you don't think you are being racist. Furthermore, I'm encouraged that you don't wish to be racist and take offence at being called one. Unfortunately, racism has become as common as the air we breathe and the news we watch. Racist attitudes are insidious, easily spread, and often internalized without question. Anti Muslim/Arab fear and hate has gotten out of control. “Terrorism”, “Arab”, and “Muslim” have become so linked that planes are stopped when Arabic is spoken on them. Muslim Men, women, and children are afraid to walk the streets in their traditional clothing lest they be attacked with insults or worse. Such racist behavior has unfortunately become common and widely acceptable... But not on my wall.
