Apparantly Builders don't like to build, so how about making them receive gears & cogs every now and then when they put down blocks?
Gears & Cogs can be converted into various defensive machines, such as maybe..
- Kegs O' Tar: Has an activation cooldown. When activated, it spews down a stream of tar into the direction it is pointed. Tar could possibly be Lava, or a modified Lava. Because Fire Resistant mobs can easiely survive Tar, it could possibly give a slowness and / or blindness debuff.
- Mannable Turrets: These turrets require people to sit in them in order to be operated.
- Machine Bow: Shoots multiple arrows at rapid speeds. While it is not exactly the best at killing things, it is good at harrassing enemies and distracting them from making their objective.
- Ballistas: Shoots powerful arrows which can potentionally one-shot zombies and skeletons! It fires rather slowly, however
- Mortar: Powerful long range demolition. It is very useful to destroy structures or clusters of mobs, such as when monsters have infested outer walls or towers. Its downside is the veery long cooldown
- Rails: Can be used to make Mannable Turrets mobile, making them move between destinations at the turret user's will
- Motion Detector: Lights up the outline of any enemies which move within its radius.
