What type of nether?

Hello members of the community! Today I will be discussing the nether on our upcoming skyblock server! We want to hear your opinion if you want a normally generated nether like we did previously or a skyblock based nether! I will be arguing both sides so leave your view down below in the poll!

The Custom Skyblock Nether

This is a nether with all the basic nether resources and a skyblocky feel! But each island has its own area like in normal skyblock! Beaware though it is very OP!


The Normal Nether

The basic nether where people on different islands can build together and do projects! Spawners are obtainable in it through the nether fortress' and nether extensions could generally happen! Warning PvP is enabled! Nether shop could be possible :)

I'm going for the original because of the loot you can get, and you forgot about the nether shop.

I feel like original is better because the Nether is already very susceptible to griefing, and in islands it would make it easier to grief. Also, nether portals with islands would become easier targets, I feel.

Nvm my area point was wrong. But I like when there is more space and more recourses, and there would be better access to different structures, including the nether shop. Also, people like Pokechu famously carry out projects like railways that promote cooperation between people.

I think that the original nether would be a better option, as there is more space and resources available, such as the spawners, quartz ore, glowstone and the creation of obsidian mines.

I don't think that players really need their own area in the nether too, as it could just become a kind of parallel skyblock world other than the extra dimension for free roaming and scavenging which we know it to be, if you know what I mean.

Yes, this area can be griefed, and people build there, but I believe this partially adds to the excitement and competition of the game. Besides, we were fine with the original nether before, so I don't see a need for a change.

1- The problem with loot is that only the first few players to enter the nether will get that, were as with nether islands everyone is going to have the opportunity to get the same amount of loot no matter when they get to the point they can enter the nether.
2- The nether shop will not happen even if I change back to default generation.

The nether islands are protected in the same way as the over-world ones.

The end world will be enabled, you can cooperate there. you can access the end at any time with '/warp end'

1- With a world border the default generation after a large enough time will have less space.
2- Much like I pointed out earlier spawners will be taken by the few people who enter the nether first.
3- With default generation I will also turn off the function that makes trees that grow in the nether be made out of glowstone (leaves) and gravel (logs) off.
side note- what do you need an obsidian mine for?

I was far from fine with the default generation of the nether mainly because people would always complain about a lack of resources or being killed and griefed.

As stated before I believe that having your own island in the nether would create a server where everyone has the same opportunity's and resources no matter when they start.

However I also believe that this community can sustain a friendly environment in a world were you can be selfish and use your advantage against other people, which is why I want this discussion on if the old nether should stay.

You have great points, but as you can see from the vote, more people would prefer the old Nether. Also, with the new 1.9 update, we may as well make islands in the End if you do the same to the Nether, b/c the End is now op and there are many advantages to the people who get there first, such as the Ender castle and Chorus fruits.

Obsidian is good for raising your island level, and it is used for nether portal farms and beacons.

I think your comments have changed my mind a little. I do believe that each island having an equal amount of resources would be fair, and that griefing being disabled would allow players to build structures knowing that they will be safe.

However, with the idea of the custom skyblock nether, it does seem like a parallel skyblock world to me, rather than a nether terrain for scavenging, and I fail to see why that's necessary. Yes, everyone gets the same resources, but some players strive for their islands to be large, whereas some players may not even play skyblock that much, but all have the same resources to work with, creating imbalance.

With the original nether, you may have a very limited number of spawners (I agree that may be unfair) but there are plenty of resources to go around. Even if the active players take a lot of quartz or glowstone, I still think that there would be enough to go round for everyone (from previous experience). In this case, every player would get the resources they need, even if that amount vastly varies depending on the activity of the person.

I'm kind of in the middle of the two ideas, as both have their pros and cons.
